Recreate Responsibly

Dear Friend,

With the longer days of summer, I’m reminded of childhood trips with my family to Mesa Verde National Park and Cape Cod National Seashore. As a park lover, I know the importance of time spent together and the value of making memories, sharing laughter and learning in the great outdoors.

Summer is typically the busiest season for our parks, a time when millions visit to create their own memories of a lifetime. However, this summer has been like no other, due to COVID-19, which has limited the ability of many to visit our parks. Whenever you are able to make your next visit, know that the National Park Service has been diligently working to take care of these national treasures while you were away.

This month, the National Park Service marks its 104th anniversary. This month also marks the monumental occasion of the Great American Outdoors Act being signed into law. In honor of these milestones, we can both celebrate parks and show gratitude for park service employees by agreeing to #RecreateResponsibly.

For those that can travel to these sites, we want to share the #RecreateResponsibly guidelines. Following these seven guidelines can help keep you safe as well as keep the park staff safe so they can continue their work.

Recreate Responsibly

By following these simple rules, together, we can safely celebrate the National Park Service and our nation’s parks. Friend, I hope you will take this opportunity to learn the Recreate Responsibly guidelines. Your commitment to these standards is a wonderful way to honor the National Park Service, our national parks, and all that you do to support them. To learn more about the Recreate Responsibly movement, visit recreateresponsibly.org for informative resources on different states, parks, and activities.

There are more than 400 national parks located across every state and U.S. territory — many closer than you might realize. Wherever you go to make new parks memories, please join the National Park Foundation and me in committing to Recreate Responsibly

Sincerely,
